All surfboards will be taped with
the same color tape across the rails & deck. The forward edge
of the tape shall be placed 24” from the nose. The area from
the nose of the board to the forward edge of tape will be the “Nose
Ride Scoring Area”.
-
Scoring is determined by the length
of time in the “Nose Ride Scoring Area” while riding a
wave. On a single wave, timing will commence when the surfer first
places both feet fully in the “Nose Riding Scoring Area”
and will terminate when either foot is subsequently placed outside
the “Nose Ride Scoring Area”, or the wave is lost, or
the surfer falls. (e.g. one wave = one trip to the nose).
-
Timing is stopped if a surfer grabs
their rail, or otherwise contacts the board behind the “Nose
Ride Scoring Area”, during a nose ride.
-
If a rider is
pearling, and the judges cannot see their feet, then the ride is not
scored.
-
Judges will utilize stop watches and
binoculars.
-
Preliminary Heats are 15 minutes,
with a 5 wave maximum; 2 waves scored.
-
Finals are 20 minutes, with a 5 wave
maximum: 2 waves scored.
-
In the event of a tie, the next best
wave will be scored.
-
Interference wave counts as a zero
and scored with a time of “0 seconds”
