What’s Up Everybody?

One again, I apologize for taking so long to update my blog this week. I have a lot going on right now! I hope everyone got out this weekend and caught that small swell that we received on Saturday & Sunday. Did anyone hear about (or see) the VB trolley that hit the transformer box last Saturday morning? I heard it was crazy. The trolley hit the box head on & caught on fire! The VB police closed the loop for the majority of the day. I have heard that many surfers were grateful for the closure, because the waves were good at First Street on Saturday. I was down at the Grom Fest in the Outer Banks, so I missed the waves & drama here!! The waves were pretty damn good down there though. It was steep and about waist to stomach high sets coming through down there. I’m proud to say that Morgan Taylor Level won the 16 & under division.
I have been following the Surfing America event in CA on the website http://www.surfingamerica.org/. Two VLF members have done really well over there. Ty Roach won Mens Longboard. Then I read that Kate Easton won the Jr. Women Longboard with two interferences! Woweee that goods... here is a segment of the article from the website;

“In a rare occurrence, eventual Girls Longboard winner Kate Easton was required to leave the line-up with just under seven minutes remaining after amazing two interference penalties during the twenty-five minute final. Easton amazingly retained the lead despite having her two top scores (a 14.83 total) cut in half. Largely thanks to her near-perfect 9.5 ride, Easton earned her first USA Championship title.”

Well, ECSC is starting tomorrow (Thursday 8/21). I believe all of the first rounds of amateur Longboard will go out tomorrow. Make sure you check out your heats on www.surfusa.org . Also, from past experiences with my children… make sure you go down there & check the heat board first thing in the morning to make sure none of the heats changed! I know that they had a last minute sign up session at WRV on Tuesday night, so that could of shifted things around a little bit. Good luck to all of the VLF members at the event.
Ok, Ok. I waited until the end of the blog to write about a great accomplishment in “VLF history.” The VLF was invited to the Malibu Classic! What about that? We are the only East Coast Longboard club to be invited. Here is a list of clubs that are invited; MSA Classic Invitees
• Big Stick Surfing Association
• Huntington Beach Longboard Crew
• Long Beach Surf Club
• Malibu Boardriders Club
• Malibu Surfing Association
• Oceanside Longboard Surfing Club

You can check out the event’s homepage at http://www.msaclassic.com/. We are really excited. We have put together a great team. We are all flying in together and staying at the Good Night Inn. It was a huge obstacle getting people together on such a short notice. The MSA only gave us two weeks to recruit club members for the event and to collect the club fee of $2,000. But, we did it!! Here is a list of people going;

As you all know, Malibu is the beach town of Hollywood. So to represent Hollywood, the MSA is going to have an expression session with some of the following stars; Jason Mraz, Flea, Sal Masekela, Peter DiStefano, Chad Lowe, Richard Burgi, Brandon Cruz, David Chokachi and maybe some more. The only person’s name that recognize from that lit is Flea of the Red Hot Chili Peppers. So, I hope its cool and I will take lots of pictures for you guys.
Well, enough of my bragging about our awesome VLF club. I hope everyone has a restful weekend and I promise to write another blog next week!
